Chapter Eleven

Templar

There was a part of me that was thrilled that Sebastian had a sense of humor. I always liked people who could make me laugh. Life as a timekeeper could get pretty depressing at times and laughter seemed to help a lot.

There was another part of me that was totally freaking out. Sebastian had called me his mate before, but for some reason I had yet to figure out, the word hadn't truly sunk in until just now.

I didn't know if I was ready for that level of commitment to someone I barely knew. Someone who had been calling me evil just the day before. Granted, he seemed to have changed his tune, but he could change it back just as quickly. Sebastian hadn't experienced everything a timekeeper could do yet.

"Did Blake say anything to you while he had you?" Sebastian asked.

"He just kept asking me where you were." It had been strange. "The man's psycho, Sebastian, and I mean seriously nutso. He kept ranting about finding you. He never said why he wanted you, but he is determined to find you."

Sebastian shook his head. "I don't know either. Maybe he thinks Daniel gave me something and he wants it back. I just don't know."

"I still think it has something to do with you being a gargoyle."

"Only if Blake actually knows I'm a gargoyle, and I can guarantee Daniel never shifted in front of him."

"That he knows of," I pointed out. "If Blake is as crooked as we think he is, then he could have been keeping an eye on Daniel to see if Daniel knew he was breaking the law. Daniel could have thought he was shifting in private and Blake saw him."

That seemed like the most likely scenario to me.

"We don't really have time to ponder how he knows, or even if he does know," I said. There was a sense of urgency that I couldn't shake. "We need to find out what happened to my brothers."

Sebastian nodded. "Stay next to me."

I wasn't planning on going anywhere else.

Sebastian helped me through the hole he'd made in the wall. Once I stepped through, I turned to look at it, my jaw dropping. "You ripped a hole in the wall, Sebastian."

"They can bill me for it."

I snickered as I started toward the backdoor. I stepped out onto the back steps just ahead of Sebastian, who was hovering over me. He was tall in his human form, but his gargoyle form was massive. He had to stand nearly seven feet tall and he was twice as wide as I was.

He was an impressive gargoyle. God... a gargoyle. I'd read about them, of course, but I'd always assumed they were myths. Something ancient people called creatures they couldn't identify or understand.

Boy, was I wrong.

I swung around when I heard a vehicle start up. I scanned the backyard before my gaze fell on the garage which sat toward the back of the yard. The light from a set of headlights lit up the night sky.
